在电子游戏产业，预计在2021年将会有许多新的电子游戏发布。但由于2019冠状病毒病疫情的持续，部分软件和硬件的发布被多次延迟。

1月 4日 任天堂收购了加拿大电子游戏开发商Next Level Games的所有股份，将在3月1日成为旗下的子公司[1]。
13日 卢卡斯影业恢复卢卡斯艺术，并宣布将与育碧达成合作，共同打造一款新的《星球大战》游戏，将由育碧旗下的Massive Entertainment开发[2]。
15日 GameMaker游戏引擎的开发商YoYo Games（英语：YoYo Games）被Opera以1000万美元的价格收购，并成立Opera游戏部门。[3]
22日 Vicarious Visions被并入暴雪娱乐，成为暴雪的游戏开发支持团队，其200多名原员工转移至暴雪[4]。
2月 1日 Google宣布将关闭旗下Google Stadia的内部游戏开发工作室，不再涉足游戏开发，而是向第三方游戏开发商提供平台[5][6]。
2日 Embracer集团（英语：Embracer Group）收购了Gearbox软件、Aspyr Media和Easybrain[7][8][9]。
15-21日 受到北美冬季風暴影響，美國德州出現大停電，位於德州的多家大型電子遊戲開發商停止營運，如EA德州分部、動視暴雪德州分部、Aspyr Media、Certain Affinity（英语：Certain Affinity）和Owlchemy Labs相關業務暫停。少數開發商如Cloud Imperium Games憑藉後備電源維持運行[10]。
6月 12–15日 2021年E3电子娱乐展（英语：E3 2021）（E3 2021）在美国加利福尼亚州洛杉矶举行[11]。
7月 19日 腾讯宣布以13亿美元收购Sumo集团（英语：Sumo Group）[12]。
9月 30日– 东京电玩展2021计划在日本千叶举行[13][14]。
