三明治吐司
三明治吐司(sandwich bread,有时又做 sandwich loaf)是一类特别设计来制作三明治的吐司。[1][2][3]三明治吐司种类繁多,可能以白面包、全麦面包、老面面包、黑麦面包、杂粮面包或其他的形式呈现。[4][5][6][7]
解说
三明治吐司可能会做成容易切片[8]且能切得干净或切得一致的样子,而且带有较细致的内部和较浅的颜色[3];三明治吐司会有较为平衡的硬皮和内部比例,因此能夹住馅料并进而减少滴漏和弄脏衣物的可能性,[2][3]一些吐司会做得不会变得太脆、太硬、太干或变得糊糊的。[1][9]
三明治吐司可以指方形、有着白色切面的小麦吐司,而一些人声称这种吐司有着“用来夹方形午餐肉来吃的完美设计”,[10]而用以制作手指三明治(finger sandwich)的吐司有时也会称作三明治吐司[10];另外,庞多米面包是一种三明治面包。[11][12]一些面包会设计来制作诸如潜艇堡之类的特殊三明治[13];另外在烤肉时,高品质的白吐司被一些人认为适合用于烤吐司;[14]此外,无麸质三明治面包可用无麸质面粉、苔麸和其他的原料制作。[15][16]
美国
在美国,在1930年代,sandwich bread 一词指的是烤吐司;[10]在当代,美国的消费者有时会将 Wonder Bread 生产的白吐司称为三明治吐司,[4]Wonder Bread 生产并贩售一种名叫“Wonder Round 三明治吐司”(Wonder Round sandwich bread)的产品,这种吐司被设计来可以以两片良好的夹起火腿片、蛋、汉堡肉之类的夹料,但后来因低需求而停产。[17]美国的三明治吐司传统上还会包含一些来自牛奶和油类的脂肪以给面包增添风味。[3]
商业三明治面包
像赛百味(Subway)之类的一些公司和面包会烘烤用以制作三明治的面包。[18]琣伯莉饼干生产并行销用于三明治的吐司[19][20];Nature's Pride 则是另一个生产三明治面包的品牌;另外,印度旁遮普邦的波昂工业集团(Bonn Group of Industries)这家公司生产一种名叫“超级三明治吐司”(Super Sandwich Bread)的产品;另外像H-E-B集团等一些连锁超市会生产自有品牌的三明治吐司。[21]
一些大量生产的三明治吐司在包装前会先切片,[2][22]而其他的一些则不会。另外像尼森集团(Nissen)等一些公司也会生产三明治用的圆面包。[23]
大众文化中
在2012年时,新泽西州博览会(New Jersey State Fair)曾一度举办“Fleischmann酵母粉‘动感三明治吐司’大赛”(The Fleischmann's yeast "Sensational Sandwich Bread" contest),在其中,猜赛者将其自家制作且使用Fleischmann酵母粉的三明治送交主办单位。[24]评审会借由吐司的外观、口感、质地、馅料和创意等为三明治评分。[24]这比赛的奖金包含现金,且有州和国家大奖比赛获胜者参与其中。[24]
