故事
讲述一位不会说西班牙语的著名拉丁女星，每天参演西班牙语肥皂剧而发生的趣事。[5]

制作
2015年1月16日，NBC宣布预订13集。[16]2015年10月19日，宣布因档期安排因素，本剧将与《爆笑超市》共同从原预订的13集缩减2集成11集。[17]2015年11月，本剧剧名从《Telenovela》更为《Hot & Bothered》，后又再次改为《Telenovela》。[18]2016年5月13日，本剧正式被取消。[4]
播出
本剧于2015年12月7日晚间10点跟随在《美国之声》之后首播，并一次播放2集（1小时），同日，于NBC官网释出第3集。原定不会在电视上播出的第3集，后被NBC安排在2015年12月28日晚间9点30分首播，并于2016年1月4日晚间8点30分起，开始首播全新集数。
评价
于Metacritic整合的评论中，本剧获得63分（满分100分；20位评论家），属普遍的好评。[19]于烂番茄整合的评论中，本剧获得63%新鲜度、5.9/10分（19位评论家），评论家共识：“由迷人的伊娃·朗歌莉亚领衔讨喜的卡司，《肥皂剧人生》是部具有娱乐可期性笑料的喜剧。”[20]
