新南威爾士州法律政策專員（英語：Solicitor General for New South Wales）是澳洲新南威爾士州的官方律政專員之一，也是新南威爾士州律政司的副手。其可在律政司空缺的情況下行使律政司的職權。法律政策專員與刑事法律專員（Crown Advocate）、刑事檢控專員（英语：Director of Public Prosecutions (New South Wales)）（Director of Public Prosecutions）及民事檢察專員（英语：Crown Solicitor's Office (New South Wales)）（Crown Solicitor）一同合作，並擔任州官方及州政府的法律及憲法顧問之一。

法律政策專員在法庭上被稱為「法律政策專員先生」（Mr Solicitor）或「法律政策專員女士」（Ms Solicitor）。儘管該職銜直譯為「總事務律師」，該職位通常是由大律師（barrister）擔任，且自1925年以來一直由御用大律師（Queen's Counsel或King's Counsel）或資深大律師（Senior Counsel）擔任。以前法律政策專員如律政司一樣是政治委任，但它自1922年以來與議會分離，自1969年以來，法律政策專員一直為與司法廳有聯繫的法定職位。

歷史及職能

法律政策專員根據《1969年法律政策專員法令》（Solicitor General Act 1969）的規定運作。[1]該法令第2條規定，法律政策專員須為「具有至少7年資歷的澳洲律師」，並且不得為廳長級官員。退休年齡定為72歲。[1]法律政策專員在澳洲高等法院及其他法院擔任官方法律顧問，並就民事及刑事事宜（包括憲制法事宜）向律政司提供建議。[2]直到1987年，法律政策專員有權在新南威爾士州的刑事上訴法院對刑事訟案提起上訴，然而這後來成為刑事檢控專員（Director of Public Prosecutions）的職責。[3]

約翰·賓吉（John Plunkett）是第一位被冊封為為御用大律師的新南威爾士州大律師，他於1856年6月6日由律政司職位退休。[4][5]第一位被委任為法律政策專員時已是御用大律師的人為John Hargrave。Cecil Weigall於1922年被委任為法律政策專員，並於1925年被冊封為御用大律師。Harold Snelling在被委任時是御用大律師。自從1969年法律政策專員職位轉變為法定職位後，只有身為御用大律師的人選才能被委任為法律政策專員。[6]1993年，新南威爾士州停止冊封御用大律師，這一要求隨之被取消。[7]
