Pango（Παν語）是一個開放原始碼的自由文字布局庫，通過使用HarfBuzz文字塑形庫描繪多語種的文字。[4]全功能文字描繪和跨平台支援在Pango與各平台的API或諸如Uniscribe和FreeType作為文字描繪後端的第三方庫使用時呈現。Pango處理的文字會表現出在不同平台之下執行時的相近效果。
Pango是一種特定用途的文字函式庫，而不是像同樣能被Pango所用的通用圖形描繪庫Cairo只具備最簡單的文字描繪。實際上Cairo技術文件推薦使用Pango來描繪文字。
Pango的名稱出自希臘語「παν」（pan，所有）和日語「語」（go，語言）。[5]
應用
Pango已經被整合到多數Linux發行版中，並在Fedora Core 6被用於Firefox網頁瀏覽器和Thunderbird郵件客戶端的文字描繪。雖然在Mozilla的原始碼里並沒有包含Pango，但Fedora Core得到了Mozilla基金會的特別許可[6]。同樣，Debian的Iceweasel、IceDove和IceApe也使用了Pango。
對OpenType功能的支援
Pango 1.17及更新版本支援使用locl標籤允許同一Unicode碼點的在地化字元的使用。
從1.37.1版開始，Pango添加了更多屬性來提供處理OpenType功能的完整支援。[7][8][9]
歷史
2000年1月，GScript和GnomeText計劃合併後命名為Pango。[10][11][12][13][14][15]
Pango 1.0.0 版於2002年3月11日發布。[16][17]
