2002年的馬來西亞，經歷了首相马哈地·穆罕默德倒數第二年的執政，隔年退位，同時為馬來西亞獨立日45週年、馬來西亞日39週年。

- 於2001年11月因非法進入馬來西亞被捕的棉蘭老穆斯林自治區前州長努·密蘇阿里與他的七名追隨者一起被遣返菲律賓^[4]。
