历史
该大学由耶稣会成立于1886年，当时称圣伊格内修斯学院（St Ignatius College），是一所男子学院。[6] 1923年为纪念美国首位罗马天主教主教和大主教约翰·卡罗尔而改现名，1935年搬至现址。[7]
二战期间，它是美国131所参加V-12海军学院培训计划的美国学院之一，为学生提供海军军事教育。[8] 1968年9月男女共学，在21世纪初扩张。
