2021年6月，宣布《异星战境》由布莱德·派顿执导，珍妮花·洛庇丝领衔主演兼监制，以及阿伦·埃利·科莱特将重新改写里欧·萨达里安（Leo Sardarian）所创作的原剧本[5]。2022年8月，刘思慕、斯特林·K·布朗和亚伯拉罕·波普拉（Abraham Popoola）加入主演阵容，前者将在本电影中饰演反派角色[6]。同年9月，宣布拉娜·帕瑞拉加入剧组[7]。
