白船事件，或称白船海难（英语：White Ship Disaster），是发生在12世纪的一场海难。白船（法语：la Blanche-Nef ；中世纪拉丁语： Candida navis ）是一艘载有当时英国王位继承人威廉·艾德林以及他的同父异母的姊姊佩尔什的玛蒂尔达和哥哥林肯的理查德等许多贵族的船只，于1120年11月25日从法国前往英国的途中在诺曼第海岸巴夫勒尔附近的英吉利海峡沉没。[1]约300名乘客中，只有一名来自卢昂的屠夫幸存。[2]
由于唯一婚生的儿子威廉·阿德林去世，英国国王亨利一世没有合适的继承人，导致15年后他的去世引发了王位继承危机和英国内战，史称无政府时期（1135—1153年）。
背景
英国国王亨利一世以情妇与私生子女众多出名，其与皇后苏格兰的玛蒂尔达婚生的仅有一子威廉·艾德林和一女玛蒂尔达，为唯二的英国王位合法继承人。威廉作为预定的王位继承人，备受关爱照料，曾随父亲亨利一世至诺曼第征战，也在1118年母亲过世后父亲在海外期间，担任过英格兰的摄政。[3] 1119年法国国王路易六世与亨利一世为争夺诺曼第公国控制权爆发布雷穆勒战役，路易六世战败只好接受1115年亨利一世曾提出的要求——任命威廉·艾德林为诺曼第公爵。 白船是一艘新改装的船只，船长为汤玛斯·菲茨斯蒂芬，其父亲斯蒂芬·菲茨艾拉德（Stephen FitzAirard，又名 Estienne filz Airard ）曾在1066年诺曼征服英格兰期间担任征服者威廉海军舰队莫拉号的船长。[4]汤玛斯将他的船提供给亨利一世以便从诺曼第的巴夫勒尔返回英格兰。[5]尽管亨利一世早已做好了其他安排，但他还是允许许多随行人员乘坐白船，其中包括他的儿子兼王位继承人威廉·艾德林、私生子女林肯的理查德和佩尔什伯爵夫人玛蒂尔达·菲茨罗伊，切斯特伯爵理查德·德阿夫朗什和皇家法官杰弗里·里德尔，还有许多其他贵族。 [5]

威廉·阿德林原已登上了一艘小船准备逃脱，但当他听到妹妹玛蒂尔达的求救声时，他转身试图营救她，而他的船则被其他试图自救的人压垮淹没，威廉和他们皆不幸溺毙。[6] 来自卢昂的屠夫贝罗尔德 (Beroldus 或 Berout) 则因紧紧抓住岩石而成为此次海难的唯一幸存者，他原本是为了讨债而搭上这条船的。而汤玛斯·菲茨斯蒂芬在沉船后浮出水面并得知威廉·阿德林没有生还时，他宁愿让自己淹死也不愿面对国王。[7]

影响
威廉·阿德林的去世使得亨利一世只留下了一个合法的子嗣——二女儿玛蒂尔达。尽管亨利一世曾多次强迫他的男爵们宣誓支持玛蒂尔达作为他的继承人，但从未有女性凭借自己的权利统治过英格兰。玛蒂尔达也因为嫁给英格兰诺曼贵族的宿敌安茹伯爵若弗鲁瓦五世而不受欢迎。1135年亨利一世逝世后，英国贵族们不愿意接受玛蒂尔达为女王。
亨利一世的侄子布卢瓦的斯蒂芬篡夺了玛蒂尔达以及他的哥哥苏利伯爵威廉和蒂博四世的王位。据称斯蒂芬原本计划乘坐白船，但在起航前下了船 [5]
亨利一世死后，玛蒂尔达和她的丈夫、金雀花王朝的创建者若弗鲁瓦五世，为了争夺王位，与斯蒂芬及其盟友展开了一场漫长的战争。无政府时期内战从1138年持续到1153年，对英格兰南部造成毁灭性破坏。

No ship that ever sailed brought England such disaster, none was so well known the wide world over. There perished then with William the king's other son Richard, born to him before his accession by a woman of the country, a high-spirited youth, whose devotion had earned his father's love; Richard earl of Chester and his brother Othuel, the guardian and tutor of the king's son; the king's daughter the countess of Perche, and his niece, Theobald's sister, the countess of Chester; besides all the choicest knights and chaplains of the court, and the nobles' sons who were candidates for knighthood, for they had hastened from all sides to join him, as I have said, expecting no small gain in reputation if they could show the king's son some sport or do him some service.[9]
