剧情背景
该剧讲述明星大律师英格丽利用肮脏手段为客户韦伯斯特赢下官司，却反而令她与韦伯斯特的关系纠缠不清，加上恩师和好友突然遇害，怀疑一切都与韦伯斯特有关的英格丽急于找出真相，让事业尽快重回正轨[1]。

制作
开发
2021年5月，Eleventh Hour Films在珍·凯西的律政惊栗小说《替身律师》（The Killing Kind）出版的同月购下版权[3]。2022年12月，Paramount+为该剧的制作开绿灯，宣布将会改编成一部六集电视剧，并由索尼影业电视取得该剧的发行权[4]。乔纳森·A·H·斯图尔特（Jonathan A.H. Stewart）和萨拉·海耶丝（Zara Hayes）出任编剧，而原著作者凯西亦有参与制作，并与宝拉·卡迪（Paula Cuddy）、吉尔·格林（Jill Green）和夏娃·古铁雷斯（Eve Gutierrez）一同出任执行制作人[5][6]。2023年7月，该剧释出前导预告[7]。
选角
2023年1月，柯林·摩根、艾玛·阿普尔顿、艾略特·巴恩斯-沃雷尔、罗伯·贾维斯和克尔·洛根（Kerr Logan）宣布加入演出阵容，其中摩根和阿普尔顿将担任领衔主演[8]。同年8月，莎拉·鲍威尔 和尼可拉斯·罗尔宣布参演[1]。
拍摄
该剧的主体拍摄于2023年1月在布里斯托瓶场工作室开始，取景地点包括学院绿地、布里斯托座堂和克利弗顿学院[9][10]。由于该剧设定于伦敦，部份写有布里斯托的店铺招牌和路牌被剧组遮盖或替换成写著伦敦的道具[11]。剧组随后移师到布里斯托的京士敦和贝德明斯特[12][13]，又在同年2月到森麻实郡的布里安拍摄[14]。剧组于同年3月到威尔斯的纽波特取景[15]，又在翌月被媒体拍到于布里斯托和平纪念碑取景[11]。剧组随后移师到伦敦拍摄，并在同年6月杀青[10]。
发行
该剧原定于2024年在Paramount+上首播[16]，但最终在2023年8月25日宣布调动档期，改于同年9月7日首播[17]。
