美国州际公路系统主线是由70条主要州际高速公路组成的高速公路网络。它们使用一位或两位数字作为路线编号,其辅助线则使用三位数字作为路线编号。一般的规律是,奇数编号的州际公路为南北向,号码由西向东递增;偶数编号的州际公路为东西向,号码由南向北递增。编号可以被5整除的路线通常代表贯穿全国,连接海岸到海岸或边界到边界的路线(例如:I-10从加利福尼亚的圣塔莫尼卡到佛罗里达的杰克逊维尔,连接了太平洋和大西洋)。此外,辅助公路的编号系统一般是在其所依附的主线编号之前加上一位数字前缀。
