"Left-Hand Layup!" is a Chinese 2D original basketball anime, it tells the story of a basketball boy named Xu Xingze and a group of high school students who accompanied each other and worked hard to achieve their basketball dreams.
Co-produced with Tencent, season 1 of Left-hand Layup! premiered in Feb 2023 in China and has since received enormous success, becoming one of the all-time best-performing new original animated series on Tencent Video. Left-Hand Layup! the first season was nominated for the Best Animated Series Award at the 20th China Animation Golden Dragon Award and selected as the 2023 Outstanding Online audiovisual work By China National Radio And Television Administration. In May 2024, It won the Bronze Award for Animated Series at the 20th China International Animation Festival Golden Monkey Award.[1]
"Left-Hand Layup!"is the first animation IP endorsed by the Chinese Basketball Association. At the beginning of the project, it received its first investment from Joe-Tsai and Hony Capital.[2]During the launch of the "Left-Hand Layup" animation, it not only received strong support from international basketball stars such as Jeremy Lin and Yi Jianlian but also received in-depth attention from NBA China and the Brooklyn Nets. [3]Also, it received positive reviews from overseas media with more than 10 million related content views. It was seen as “One of the Best Sports Anime of 2023”.[4]
"Left-Hand Layup!" season 2 is expected to be premiered in 2024, and the derivative Manga "JingBeiFuZhong Basketball Club" is being updated weekly on the official social media platform.
Plot
The story follows teenager Xu Xingze, a passionate basketball player who aspires to reunite with his childhood friend Chen Feng by joining Chen's high school where the basketball team is one of tops in the region. When his sister accidentally enrolls him into a lesser school with a similar name, it's up to Xu and his ragtag group of new friends to prove their worth and their skill on the court against some of the top high school players in the region while solving the mystery behind Chen’s disappearance.
