Portal:舞蹈/特色傳記/1 Mikhail Nikolaevitch Baryshnikov (俄語：Михаил Николаевич Барышников) (born January 28, 1948) is a famous Russian dancer, choreographer, and actor.
Baryshnikov, whose name is sometimes transliterated as Baryshinikov or Barishinikov, was born in Riga, Latvia to Russian parents. His mother enrolled him in the School of Theatre Opera Ballet in Riga when he was twelve. In time, he decided to follow a career as a dancer.
Baryshnikov was a unique dancer in many ways. He was short and thus had to work hard to prove his suitability for roles such as Siegfried in Swan Lake where a taller, more noble bearing was expected. His dancing was renowned for its textbook form, technical brilliance, and emotional detachment.
Emma Livry (September 24, 1842 – July 26, 1863) was one of the last ballerinas of the Romantic ballet era, and a protégée of Marie Taglioni. She perished from burn injuries when her costume caught fire during a performance rehearsal.
Emma studied dancing while young and attended the Paris Opera School. She made her debut at age sixteen with the Paris Opera as the sylph in La Sylphide. Her talent brought her fame and she became a widely respected ballerina.
Marie Taglioni noticed her during one of her performances and immediately took a liking to the girl, becoming her mentor. Marie choreographed for Emma in the ballet Le Papillon, a piece by Jacques Offenbach that was especially created just for Emma.
Napoleon and Tabitha D'umo, also known as Nappytabs, are husband and wife choreographers who are often credited with developing the new style of hip-hop dance known as lyrical hip-hop. They have been working together in the dance industry since 1996 and are best known for their choreography on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance. They were subsequently nominated for a 2009 Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography for their work on season four. In addition to So You Think You Can Dance, Tabitha and Napoleon are supervising choreographers on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew and own Nappytabs urban dancewear.
Napoleon and Tabitha started their career in Las Vegas while still in college choreographing industrial musicals for large businesses. After moving to Los Angeles, they began teaching dance classes and choreographing for professional basketball and football dance teams including the Orlando Magic and the Dallas Cowboys. Their career improved to choreographing music videos, commercials, films, television shows, and concerts. They have worked with entertainers such as Missy Elliott, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Kanye West, Ricky Martin, and Jennifer Lopez. They also appeared in the dance documentary MOVE and choreographed three different productions of Cirque du Soleil, two of which included guest performances on Dancing with the Stars and America's Got Talent. Although Napoleon and Tabitha still choreograph and teach classes, they have moved toward directing tours and live events.

He has been a reoccurring hip hop choreographer on the Fox reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance since season 3. He is a faculty member at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and Monsters of Hip Hop dance convention.
In 2001 Scott formed the teen R&B group B2K and served as their choreographer and stylist. With the group he went on to choreograph the movie You Got Served which featured all four singers in primary roles. In 2004, Scott won an American Choreography Award for You Got Served. He also won a Fred & Adele Astaire Award in 2008 for the movie Step Up 2: The Streets.
Portal:舞蹈/特色傳記/5 Debbie Allen (born January 16, 1950 in Houston, Texas) is an American actress, choreographer, director, and producer. She first began receiving critical attention in 1980, when she appeared in the role of Anita in the Broadway revival of West Side Story which earned her a Drama Desk Award.
She is probably best known for her role as Lydia Grant in the hit 1982 TV series Fame. During the opening montage of each episode, Ms. Grant told her students: "You've got big dreams? You want fame? Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying... in sweat." Allen was also lead choreographer for the film and television series, winning two Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe Award.
She has a B.A. in classical Greek literature, speech, and theater from Howard University. She also holds honoris causa Doctors from Howard and the North Carolina School for the Arts.
Portal:舞蹈/特色傳記/6 Christopher "Lil' C" Toler (born January 19, 1983) is an African American dancer and choreographer best known for co-inventing the hip-hop dance style krumping. He has danced for several musical artists including Missy Elliott, Fall Out Boy, and Madonna, and was cast as a featured dancer in the 2007 art exhibit Slow Dancing. He has also choreographed for television programs and movies including Be Cool, Fox's Bones, the 2007 Teen Choice Awards, and the 2007 NAACP Image Awards.
Lil' C was featured in the 2005 documentary Rize, a film that documents the history of the krumping and clowning dance styles from Los Angeles. Along with Ceasare "Tight Eyez" Willis he is credited with developing krumping. He has been a judge and choreographer on the Fox television show So You Think You Can Dance since season two.
Twyla Tharp (born July 1, 1941) is an Emmy award winning American choreographer based out of New York. She has won multiple Emmy awards as well as a Tony, and a Drama Desk award for her choreography/direction in the musical Movin' Out.
Twyla Tharp is the creator of what is now known as “cross-over” ballet: she is the first choreographer to create a dance work, Deuce Coupe, that utilized both modern and ballet techniques. Tharp has choreographed dances for many companies including The Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet, New York City Ballet, The Boston Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance and The Martha Graham Dance Company.
Portal:舞蹈/特色傳記/8 Jerry Mitchell is an American theatre director and choreographer. He served as both director and choreographer for Legally Blonde: The Musical, which opened in April 2007 and Peep Show, the stage show for Planet Hollywood Paradise starring Holly Madison.
Most of his career has been in theatre; however, in 2008 he served as a mentor on Bravo's reality competition Step It Up and Dance. In 2005 he won a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Choreography for La Cage aux Folles.
Marius Petipa (born Victor Marius Alphonse Petipa on 11 March 1818 in Marseille, Kingdom of France) was a ballet dancer, teacher, and choreographer. His mother was an actress and drama teacher, while his father was a ballet master and teacher.
Petipa is noted for his long career as Premier Maître de Ballet of the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres, a position he held from 1871 until 1903. He created over fifty ballets, some of which have survived in versions either faithful to, inspired by, or reconstructed from the original: The Pharaoh's Daughter (1862); Don Quixote (1869); La Bayadère (1877); Le Talisman (1889); The Sleeping Beauty (1890); etc.

Matt Barber first encountered ballroom dancing as choreographed routines onstage for musicals and began ballroom dance lessons in high school. At eighteen years of age, Matt started training to become a ballroom dance instructor with National Dance Clubs as a side job in college; he went on to teach in the independent world, for Arthur Murray International, and for Fred Astaire Dance Studios. Concurrently, Matt graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Manhattan and acquired an SB from Fordham University, his MS, and his business management and leadership training from Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. Matt Barber's books on ballroom dancing may change the way ballroom studios conduct business.
