NGC 6357是在天蝎座鄰近NGC 6334的一個瀰漫星雲，也被稱為龍蝦星雲。 由於這個星雲的外觀，太空中繼紅外實驗的科學家稱它為戰爭與和平星雲。 他們說在紅外線的影像中，明亮的西側像一隻鴿子，而東側看起來像是骷顱[3]。這個星雲包含許多有黑暗的盤面遮蔽的原恆星，和被仍在擴張的繭包覆著的年輕恆星。
Pismis 24
這個星雲包含一個疏散星團Pismis 24，是幾顆大質量恆星的家。在這個星團中最亮的恆星是，Pismis 24-1，直到被發現是每顆質量都超過100太陽質量的聯星之前[4]，曾被認為質量大約是300太陽質量，可能是記錄中質量最大的恆星之一。

更名連署
2013年2月，美國人安德魯·賈卡（Andrew Jaqua）在Change.org發起全球請願連署活動，要求國際天文學聯合會將十分貌似日本動畫《魔法少女小圓》中「鹿目圓神化」場景的NGC 6357星雲之一部分分離出來，並且更名為「圓神星雲」（Madokami Nebula）。安德魯·賈卡在這次連署所擬定的意見書中指出，希望透過星雲更名的方式「將圓神自我犧牲的精神發揚光大」。[7]
