Studentersamfundet ble oppløst høsten 1940, som følge av regime-kritikk i møter. I september 1941 ble rektor Didrik Arup Seip arrestert, sammen med flere professorer. Høsten 1943 ble ytterligere 11 lærere og 70 studenter arrestert, etter kritikk av et nytt opptakssystem som favoriserte NS-medlemmer. Dette førte til protester og den endelige konfrontasjonen med NS- og okkupasjonsmyndighetene kom etter en påsatt brann i universitetets aula i november 1943. Gestapo gjennomførte en storaksjon hvor nær 1200 studenter og mange ansatte ble arrestert. Universitetet ble stengt resten av krigen. Arrest at the University of Oslo The university environment was closely monitored by the authorities, often with NS students as informers. Opposition and commotion was not tolerated. The student union was dissolved in the autumn of 1940, following critique of the regime in meetings. In September 1941 the principle Didrik Arup Seip was arrested, together with several professors. In the fall 1943, an additional 11 teachers and 70 students were arrested, after having criticized a new admission system that favoured members of the NS party. This lead to protests, and the final confrontation with the NS and occupational forces came after an intentional fire in the university hall in November 1943. The Gestapo carried out a major action where close to 1200 students and many employees were arrested. The university was closed for the rest of the war.
