English: The Figure M of Johannes Kepler. M stands for Stella Mundi, the Star of the World, in other words our star, the Sun. It is an ordinary star, one of an infinite number in an infinite space. From the Epitome astronomiae Copernicanae, 1618. It may be contrasted with the closed universe of spherical shells of Peter Apian from 1539, less than a century earlier.
