失敗超新星

失敗超新星（Failed supernova）是時域天文學中的一種瞬變天文事件，是指大質量恆星死亡時亮度突然上升至相當於超新星的早期階段，但最終不會上升至相當於超新星的極大光通量階段的事件。失敗超新星可被認為是假超新星的一個次類型。有時本現象會被誤稱為unnovae^[1]。

概要

失敗超新星被認為是紅超巨星在超新星的早期階段塌縮形成恆星黑洞的現象。當恆星的輻射能無法抵抗重力塌縮時，恆星的核心就會完全收縮形成恆星黑洞，並且吸收新生超新星的大量物質與能量，使恆星無法發生大規模爆炸。對於距離遙遠的觀測者而言，該紅超巨星似乎是在很小規模或不發生爆發的情形下突然出現。觀測到的這些超新星失蹤事件似乎與質量超過17倍太陽質量的超巨星相關。

失敗超新星在理論上被認為是極高質量恆星形成黑洞的幾個代表性天文現象之一，其他現象包含極超新星和長時間伽玛射线暴。

結構與過程

理論上來說，紅超巨星可能會因為質量過高而無法爆炸成為超新星，而是直接塌縮形成黑洞並且不會發出明亮光輻射。不過，此現象可能會突然產生重力波。這個過程會在大質量紅超巨星發生，可解釋對此類超新星和其前身星觀測資料缺乏的原因^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5]。
